“What Are You Waiting For?” - It's Time to Get Right with God

There’s a quiet temptation many of us carry: I’ll come back to God later. Later when life slows down. Later when we feel ready. Later when we’ve cleaned things up a bit.
But Scripture consistently reminds us that God’s invitation is always now. Turning to God isn’t about timing our lives perfectly — it’s about responding when He calls. And when He calls, He does so with grace, urgency, and love.
The Question That Changes Everything
After encountering Jesus on the road to Damascus, Saul’s life was completely interrupted. He was confronted with truth, humbled, and left with a choice. When Ananias came to him, he didn’t encourage delay or hesitation. He spoke with clarity and conviction:
“And now what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on His name.” - Acts 22:16 (NIV)
This isn’t a casual suggestion — it’s a biblical invitation. God is asking His people to respond, not postpone.
Repentance Is Turning Toward New Life
To repent means to turn — to change direction. It’s not about self-improvement or spiritual preparation. It’s about surrendering the old way of life and stepping into the life God offers. And Scripture wasn’t silent about what that response looks like:
“Repent and be baptized… for the forgiveness of your sins.” - Acts 2:38 (NIV)
Repentance and baptism aren’t merely rituals — they are the moment where God brings forgiveness and ushers us into newness of life.
Where the Old Life Ends and the New One Begins
Jesus made it clear that entering God’s kingdom means being born again:
“Very truly I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless they are born again.” - John 3:3
And again:
“No one can enter the kingdom of God unless they are born of water and the Spirit.” - John 3:5
Baptism is presented in Scripture as the reality of new life — where the old is gone and the new has begun:
“We were therefore buried with Him through baptism… in order that we too may live a new life.” - Romans 6:4
God doesn’t ask us to wait until we feel ready. He invites us into life — His life — right now.
The Real Reasons We Keep Delaying
Many people delay because they feel unready.Unworthy. Unsure. Afraid.
But Scripture doesn’t wait for us to be neat or complete. It calls us to turn:
“Seek the Lord while He may be found; call on Him while He is near.” - Isaiah 55:6
Waiting doesn’t make the moment clearer. Often, it only keeps us standing at the edge of the life God is already offering.
Why Scripture Keeps Saying “Now”
God’s word frames salvation as present tense — not future, not someday:
“Now is the time of God’s favor, now is the day of salvation.” - 2 Corinthians 6:2
If God is stirring your heart — inviting you to turn, to surrender, to live — that call is not accidental. It is grace reaching toward you in the present moment.
An Invitation You Don’t Have to Earn
God does not ask us to wait until we are perfect. He asks us to respond.
If you have been holding back, delaying, or waiting for the “right moment,” Scripture asks a simple, loving question:
What are you waiting for?
