raised to new life

We’re so excited that you want to learn more about baptism. We are all called to be baptized in water and raised to “a new life in Christ” (Romans 6:4) and this initial act of obedience is one of the most significant points in our faith journey. Our desire is to do all that we can to prepare you for this next step.

Why should I be baptized?

Baptism is a standard practice for conversion in the New Testament. Jesus instructs all believers to be baptized in water (Matthew 28:18-20) and He modeled baptism for us before he started his ministry (Matthew 3:13-17). The act of baptism unites us with Jesus through his death, burial, and resurrection (Romans 6:1-6) and it is the point at which our sins are forgiven and we receive the gift of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:36-39). Furthermore, baptism is our entryway into the church and brings us into fellowship with other believers. (1 Corinthians 12:12-13).

When should I be baptized?

Baptism can take place at any time, but the examples communicated in Scripture convey that baptism should be met with eagerness and not delayed (Acts 2:40-41, Acts 8:36-38, Acts 22:12-16). Each individual is ready for baptism when they have believed and accepted the message of the gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-4), understand the costs of discipleship (Luke 14:25-33), and have made a personal decision to follow Jesus and submit to His teachings.

What is the process for baptism?

We want everyone who desires baptism to have a solid understanding of their decision and the life-long commitment to Christ. Therefore, we invite everyone interested in baptism to participate in our “Journey Bible Study Series.” This informal Bible study will help you map out your personal spiritual journey and equip you with the knowledge to grasp the simple, yet profound, nature of baptism.

The Greek word for “baptism” in the New Testament (baptizo) means immersion - so at The Path, we practice baptism through full immersion in water.
