A Foundation We Can Trust
Every life is built on something. For some, it’s career success. For others, it’s family, financial stability, or personal happiness. These things aren’t bad—but they shift. Careers change. Relationships get strained. Wealth can vanish. Happiness rises and falls. Scripture reminds us of this truth: “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8).
That’s why at The Path Church, one of our core values is this: The Bible is our standard. It is our foundation, our compass, and our guide. In a world of moving targets, God’s Word remains steady. It doesn’t bend to culture or change with the times. It is eternal truth, and when we anchor our lives in it, we find stability that nothing else can give.
God’s Word Shapes and Equips Us
Paul wrote with conviction: “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Timothy 3:16–17). Notice that phrase—all Scripture. Not just the verses that inspire us or the parts that feel convenient. All of it.
God’s Word teaches us what is right. It challenges us when we drift. It redirects us when we’re wrong. It strengthens us when we’re weary. And ultimately, it equips us to live the kind of life God created us to live—a life that honors Him and blesses others. Without Scripture as our standard, we are left to define truth for ourselves. But with it, we gain God’s wisdom for every decision, season, and challenge.
A Lamp in the Darkness
There are moments in life where the path feels unclear. Maybe it’s a decision about school, work, or relationships. Maybe it’s navigating grief, temptation, or uncertainty about the future. In those moments, the Bible lights the way. “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path” (Psalm 119:105).
The imagery here is powerful. God’s Word doesn’t promise to light the entire highway miles ahead—it promises to light the next step. We don’t need to know everything about tomorrow when His Word gives us enough light to trust Him today.
The writer of Hebrews describes the Bible as “living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart” (Hebrews 4:12). That means Scripture isn’t a dusty, outdated book—it’s God’s living voice, piercing through the noise, guiding us with truth, and exposing what we need to see.
Truth in a Shifting World
We live in a culture where “truth” often feels flexible—where what’s right for one person may be considered wrong for another. But Jesus prayed for His disciples and said, “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth” (John 17:17). God’s Word doesn’t just contain truth—it is truth.
That means Scripture is not just an old collection of wisdom but the authoritative voice of God for every generation. It speaks into marriage and singleness, work and rest, joy and suffering. It challenges us when we get comfortable, convicts us when we compromise, and comforts us when we feel weak.
When we hold to Scripture as our standard, we don’t drift with the current of culture. Instead, we stand firm on the unchanging rock of God’s Word.
Living It Out Today
So how do we make the Bible our standard in daily life? It’s more than owning a copy on a shelf. It’s more than reading a verse here or there when we need encouragement. It means making God’s Word our measure for decisions, our guide in relationships, and our authority in every area of life.
When culture says, “Do what feels good,” Scripture calls us to holiness.
When pride tells us, “I know best,” Scripture humbles us before God.
When fear whispers, “You’re on your own,” Scripture reminds us of God’s promises.
James 1:22 challenges us: “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” Making the Bible our standard means we don’t just admire its wisdom—we live it.
Anchored in the Word
If we want lives that withstand storms, we must be anchored in Scripture. Jesus told a parable of two builders—one who built his house on sand, the other on rock. The storms came to both, but only the house on the rock stood firm (Matthew 7:24–27). That rock is God’s Word.
At The Path Church, we believe that when we live by Scripture, we live by God Himself. His Word points us to Jesus, equips us for His mission, and sustains us through every challenge. In a shifting world, let us be people who remain anchored, guided, and transformed by His eternal Word.
