Love is the thread that runs through every part of the Christmas story. It is the reason Jesus came, the reason hope exists, the reason peace is possible, and the reason joy outlasts sorrow. Advent is, at its core, the celebration of a God who did not wait for us to come to Him—He came to us.
“This is love: not that we loved God, but that He loved us…” (1 John 4:10)
The story begins not with our pursuit of God, but with His pursuit of us.
Love That Steps Into Our World
When Jesus entered humanity, He didn’t arrive in a palace but in a manger. Not among royalty, but among the overlooked. The arrival of Christ reveals a God who is not distant or detached but deeply present.
We see love in everything Jesus did:
In the way He touched those others avoided. In the way He spoke dignity into the forgotten. In the way He saw value in people others dismissed. In the way He forgave even as He was betrayed.
Love was not an idea to Jesus. Love was His identity.
Love in Unexpected Places
The Bible is filled with moments where God’s love breaks into ordinary life:
Ruth clinging to Naomi with covenant devotion.Hosea pursuing Gomer despite heartbreak. The father running to embrace the prodigal son before he could finish his apology.
And perhaps the clearest picture:“For God so loved the world that He gave…” (John 3:16)
Love gives.Love moves.Love acts.
True love cannot stay still.
Learning to Love Like Jesus
Advent love invites us to examine our own hearts:
Are we patient with those who frustrate us? Do we notice the people who feel unseen? Are we willing to forgive, even when it’s costly?Do we love beyond convenience?
“Walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us…” (Ephesians 5:2)
Jesus didn’t love only when it was easy.He loved because it was who He was.
And as His followers, we’re called into that same transformative way of living.
Love That Changes Us
Maybe the most surprising truth of Advent is not just that God loves the world—it’s that He loves you. Individually. Personally. Completely.
The manger is proof. The cross is proof.Your story today is evidence too.
Love changes people.Love restores identity.Love softens hearts.Love sets people free.
The more we receive God’s love, the more we naturally reflect it to others.
