The Center of Our Faith
At the very heart of Christianity is a simple yet powerful confession: Jesus is Lord. These three words are not just a church slogan or a passing phrase. They are the declaration that shapes our entire lives. To call Jesus Lord means He is King, Ruler, and Master—not only of the universe but of our hearts. The early church in Acts boldly proclaimed this truth: “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Messiah” (Acts 2:36). From the very beginning, the identity of Jesus as Lord was the foundation of faith.
Why Lordship Matters
Acknowledging Jesus as Lord is not simply about words—it’s about surrender. Paul reminds us in Romans 10:9, “If you declare with your mouth, ‘Jesus is Lord,’ and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Our salvation begins with this confession. But true confession leads to transformation.
The danger many of us face is treating Jesus like a passenger rather than the driver. We may ask Him to bless our plans, fix our mistakes, or walk alongside us—but Lordship means He’s in control of the direction altogether. As Colossians 1:17–18 reminds us, “He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. And he is the head of the body, the church… so that in everything he might have the supremacy.” When Jesus is Lord, He isn’t one priority among many—He is the center that defines them all.
Living Under His Reign
So what does it look like to live with Jesus as Lord? It means trusting His authority even when it conflicts with our own desires. It means submitting our pride, preferences, and plans to His will. It means finding security in His leadership instead of chasing control.
This surrender doesn’t lead to restriction—it leads to freedom. When we stop clinging to our own way, we discover the joy of His. Jesus Himself declared, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me” (Luke 9:23). Daily surrender is the pathway to life, and it transforms our relationships, our decisions, and our future.
Every Knee Will Bow
The truth of Christ’s Lordship extends beyond personal faith—it’s cosmic. Philippians 2:10–11 declares: “At the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” One day, all creation will recognize His rule. The question for us is: will we acknowledge Him now?
Revelation offers a glimpse of the end: “On his robe and on his thigh he has this name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS” (Revelation 19:16). Jesus’ Lordship is not optional, temporary, or negotiable. It is eternal, unshakable, and ultimate.
Living the Confession Today
So what does it mean for us at The Path Church—and for you reading this now? It means that in every choice, we ask not, “What do I want?” but “What does my Lord desire?” It means we seek His Word for guidance, not just culture for validation. It means we live in hope, because the Lord who reigns also loves us deeply.
The challenge today is to truly make “Jesus is Lord” more than a phrase we sing or a verse we recite. It is the lens through which we view all of life. And when we surrender, we gain the greatest treasure of all: Jesus Himself.
