Bible Verses About Giving

Two hands holding a string of white lights

Giving flows from the heart of God — a heart that loves, sacrifices, and blesses. When we give, we echo His generosity and trust Him to multiply what we surrender. As you reflect on these verses, ask God to shape your heart so giving becomes a lifestyle of worship — not out of compulsion, but out of love.

  • 2 Corinthians 9:7 (NIV) — “Each of you should give what you have decided in your heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.”

  • Acts 20:35 (NIV) — “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”

  • Proverbs 11:24–25 (NIV) — “One person gives freely, yet gains even more; another withholds unduly, but comes to poverty. A generous person will prosper; whoever refreshes others will be refreshed.”

  • Luke 6:38 (NIV) — “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over…”

  • Malachi 3:10 (NIV) — “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse … and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven.”

  • Matthew 6:21 (NIV) — “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

  • 1 Timothy 6:18 (NIV) — “Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.”

  • Proverbs 3:9 (NIV) — “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops.”

  • Hebrews 13:16 (NIV) — “Do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”

  • Psalm 112:5 (NIV) — “Good will come to those who are generous and lend freely.”

  • Proverbs 19:17 (NIV) — “Whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and He will reward them for what they have done.”

  • Galatians 6:2 (NIV) — “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”

  • Matthew 10:8 (NIV) — “Freely you have received; freely give.”

  • James 2:15–16 (NIV) — “Suppose a brother or sister is without clothes or daily food… what good is it?”

  • 2 Corinthians 8:12 (NIV) — “If the willingness is there, the gift is acceptable…”

  • Psalm 41:1 (NIV) — “Blessed is the one who considers the poor.”

  • Isaiah 58:10 (NIV) — “If you spend yourselves on behalf of the hungry… your light will rise in the darkness.”

  • Romans 12:13 (NIV) — “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”

  • Proverbs 22:9 (NIV) — “The generous will themselves be blessed.”

  • Ephesians 5:2 (NIV) — “Walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us.”

Giving is not duty — it’s worship. It’s gratitude, love, and trust rolled into one. This week, take a step: give quietly, give generously, give sacrificially. Whether in resources, time, or compassion — let generosity reflect the heart of Jesus.
